Creating handmade mugs is a two week process. The process starts with Madeleine preparing the clay and turning the cups on a pottery wheel. After the cups have dried overnight, they are trimmed into their final shape. When they are leather-dry, the handles can be attached. The so-called handling is a tricky and time-consuming process, but it gives the cups their zappy little character. With their handles attached, the cups will be left to dry for a few days before their first firing in our kiln. The bisque cups are glazed by hand, after which they revisit the kiln for the second time, this time to be baked at 1240° celsius (2,264° F). The now finished cups are dishwasher proof, and ready to be used.
